Hindi Devanagari - BolNagri-Layout

Post by Optilon »

Main article: https://www.indlinux.org/wiki/index.php/BolNagri
Bolnagari keyboard is a phonetic keymap for XKB. It is a hack, but works. It was desiged after the authors lost sanity after trying to use the phonetic keymaps available with IIIMF and compose keys and xmodmap. Its inspired by Devrom keymap available from keyman.
It has been developed by Indlinx in collaboration with Sarai. Indlinx is a volunteer team of Indian translators who work on localization of Linux operating system in Indian languages . This team works in collaboration with an organization called Sarai , which works for localization and software development in Indian languages.

The shift key is used for the second layer.

@hurrdudd
There are 11 keys with 4 levels. How to write the second and third level?
What is the "U2..." key for?
Is the follwing picture the standard Hindi Layout?

What are the main differences from standard to bolnagri-layout?
Is there a standard key, with which you can swap between Devanagiri and Roman Input? (I mean a key, that is usually used for swapping, e.g. Alt Gr?)

@Optilon

Right Alt for third level and right Alt + Shift for fourth.

Yes, the picture is of standard or InScript layout.

Right Alt for third level and right Alt + Shift for fourth.

Yes, the picture is of standard or InScript layout.
So right Alt is for toggling between the two alphabets. That's nice.
Do you have a more detailed picture of the BolNagri-Layout? I find it difficult to distinguish the characters from one another.
I can then compare the Bolnagri-Layout with the Inscript-Layout and a possible OptHIN-layout.

Will this do?
